The Wild Spirit of June

Second to December, June is my favorite month. There is something about it that is simply ecstatic. It's a month that everything is fresh and new and pure. School is over, so we look for new adventures. The weather is warming up steadily, before it is always hot and dry out. Rain is frequent-- the late afternoon and nighttime storms are what I live for. When you open your window, the sweet, intoxicating air floods in. The world is green and full of flowers, bursting with color. Hands are sticky from eating watermelon and popsicles, you hear breezes and the hum of air conditioners, piles of library books are begging to be read, sunscreen is everyone's perfume, and there is plenty of smiles and laughter to go around. It's the smack middle of the year and we conjure all sorts of hopes and dreams to create the most abundant of memories. We hold onto it's crispness, that shiny new feeling. June is not a month where we want to stay inside, curled up under blankets with a warm meal. We do everything in our power to not feel confined. The spirit of June is wild, untamed and we refuse to sit through it.

Last week, my friends and I used that wild energy and took advantage of that lingering June sun. Because Colorado is the most beautiful state on Earth, there is a plethora of places to explore and hike around within fifteen minutes of my house. We went to two different places to capture the beauty that the sunset brings and we sure lucked out. It was seriously stunning.

Oh my goodness I am so in love with this picture.
